La Adrada is a charming village in the Tiétar Valley, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos and just 90 minutes from Madrid via the A-5 motorway. It is home to Gredos Garage and a destination worth discovering for its historical heritage, stunning nature and authentic gastronomy.

La Adrada Castle

The Castle-Palace of La Adrada, a listed cultural heritage site, crowns the village from a hilltop. Medieval in origin (14th century), it was rebuilt as a Renaissance palace in the 16th century. Today it houses an interpretation centre for the Tiétar Valley with exhibitions on the history, nature and traditions of the area. The views from its walls are spectacular.

Nature and Hiking

The surroundings of La Adrada offer hiking routes for all levels:

  • Centenary Chestnut Route: a gentle walk among giant chestnut trees
  • Hornillo Waterfall: a medium route leading to a beautiful cascade
  • Tiétar Path: follows the river with natural pools ideal in summer
  • La Centenera Peak: for experienced hikers, with panoramic views

Local Gastronomy

Tiétar Valley cuisine is hearty and flavourful. You cannot leave without trying: Avila beef chop, patatas revolconas with pork scratchings, Barco de Ávila butter beans and Santa Teresa egg-yolk sweets. Wines from the D.O. Cebreros, made with high-altitude Garnacha, are gaining increasing international recognition.

Charming Nearby Villages

A few kilometres away you will find Piedralaves with its natural pools, Casillas with access to the El Tiemblo chestnut grove, and Arenas de San Pedro with its Infante Don Luis palace and the Eagle Caves. Each village has its own personality and deserves a visit.
